🐎 Patrick Durack
Patrick Durack helped establish Thylungra and Kyabra stations in 1868, building pastoral interests across the Channel Country before the family's later move towards the Kimberley. His first attempt to establish cattle in south-west Queensland failed in drought, and Aboriginal assistance helped the party survive. Later expansion brought wealth but formed part of a much harsher process of taking control of Aboriginal lands. From Thylungra he organised a major cattle drive to northern Western Australia. His story combines remarkable logistical ambition with the contested history of pastoral occupation.
